Anne Shields BA (Hons), PG Dip, MBACP (Accred), MBABCP
As well as more than 20 years working as a Counsellor and several as a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist, Mental Health has been an interest and specialism throughout my career.
I am experienced in working with people faced with problems common in day to day life, such as anxiety and depression, obsessive-compulsive traits, post-traumatic stress, anger and others. In addition I have a special interest in social and performance anxiety – whether you feel uncomfortably self-conscious in social situations or panic-stricken at the thought of giving a speech, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy can give you practical skills and help you build confidence. Having experienced these issues myself I know how painful they are and how liberating the right sort of help can be.
A guiding principle of mine as a counsellor and in life is to treat others as I would wish to be treated. This together with the type of counselling in which I trained (Integrative) and the approach which I have developed over the years means that you will be treated as the unique individual which you are. We will decide together the focus of the counselling/therapy, the duration and have in mind a realistic outcome.
There are so many reasons why people decide it is time to seek talking help: whether you are clear about your reason or need to explore this, a counsellor or therapist can provide objectivity, support and space.
You will find me both friendly and professional – I look forward to meeting and working with you.
