Individual and Couples Counselling
My practice will be moving to Stroud from January 2018
There are perhaps several reasons why you have decided to approach a counsellor. It may be that you wish to resolve something which is troubling you or you may be undergoing some kind of emotional crisis or trauma. It may simply be that you wish to develop more awareness regarding your situation.
I am a qualified psychodynamic counsellor working in the centre of Cheltenham. I see individuals, couples, students and young people from age 15 upwards. I can provide a confidential service within a safe space in an environment of trust and respect to listen and to help you explore your feelings.
Psychodynamic counselling will give you the opportunity to explore your difficulties and to gain some insight into what is happening. This form of counselling is about working together to consider ways in which you can move forward in your life by making changes rather than by me giving you advice or telling you what to do.
As a couples counsellor I can provide a neutral space where you and your partner can express your feelings and can consider the relationship patterns which have developed between you. There may be various reasons why you are both considering counselling at this time such as difficulties in communicating, some kind of conflict or because you have encountered a particularly difficult phase in your relationship. I will listen to each point of view in a sensitive way to enable both of you to begin to understand what is occurring between you. Couples counselling entails seeing both partners together for a series of counselling sessions.
In addition to my private practice with individuals, couples, students and young people from age 15 upwards I have been seeing students with various issues at a University for the last two years. Some of my past work as a counsellor has been in secondary schools. I also undertake adoption work in relation to adoptive placements which may include reflecting on attachment issues.
Prior to my career as a counsellor I worked for thirty years as a social worker with adults, young people and children and families within a variety of settings.Through this work I have developed specialist knowledge of pregnancy and childbirth, HIV and AIDS and chronic and terminal illness as well as in-depth knowledge about the impact of attachment issues on relationships.
I have worked for the Gloucestershire Counselling Service (GCS), which is affiliated to the Westminster Pastoral Foundation, for several years as a counsellor. I have subsequently undertaken a post-graduate training, a couples training and a time-limited therapy training at GCS in addition to a course in Mindfulness.
During our first meeting we can look at your main concerns and we can then consider how to proceed from there.
I offer counselling in a central location in Cheltenham which can be easily accessed from Cirencester,
Tewkesbury and Gloucester. My Stroud practice is a fifteen-minute walk from the town centre.
I am a registered practitioner with WPA Health Insurance, PruHealth and Aviva.
