About me

The whole basis of my work is that change IS possible.

My clients and I work together to provide solutions and a positive way forward away from their perceived problems and difficulties. These may be entrenched due to past history or may be of a current nature.

My aim and track record with clients is to help them to come to understand the reasons for their distress and to be able to tackle life in a much more positive and effective way.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an experienced Counsellor and Psychotherapist, Senior Accredited with BACP. I have 20 years of clinical practice, working with individuals and couples.

I have a broad background experience in the public sector, in GP practice and hospitals, mental health, social work, teaching and also in business, initially in HR and for the last 9 years as a senior Clinical Case Manager and Supervisor for a leading Employee Assistance Programme company. This company specialises in Work Related Stress and Trauma. I have also always had a thriving private practice.

I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling and Diplomas in Clinical Assessment and Baby Observation. I have also trained in Solution Focussed Therapy and Couple Work. My earlier background was a BA in Social Policy
and a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resources
I qualified in Psychotherapy and Counselling at WPF Therapy, Kensington where the Post Graduate Diploma is validated by Surrey University.

I work with Couples and Individuals, age 18 upwards, short or long term, either face-to-face or by telephone.

My work is largely based on the understanding that our earliest relationships deeply influence our way of thinking, feeling and behaving. Survival strategies and ways to cope, adopted in early life may limit our adult lives or even prove destructive. Counselling can offer support and an opportunity to gain a clearer and deeper understanding of yourself and your situation. Through increased self-awareness you can consider how to make different choices and make sense of life's difficulties.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

When you first come to see me we spend about an hour talking about your concerns. We then think about the best way forward for you which may be some sessions of counselling with me. If so, we then fix on a day and time when we can meet weekly, for usually 6 sessions initially, so that we can best assess what you need to get out of counselling. During the inital session we discuss confidentiality and fees.

However, if we both agree that you need a different sort of intervention than counselling, I can help you with an appropriate alternative referral, bearing in mind of course your thoughts on this.

My counselling practice is near Great Missenden within easy reach of Aylesbury,High Wycombe, Chesham and the surrounding areas of Buckinghamshire, Berkshire Hertfordshire, Middlesex and Oxfordshire.

The counselling room is dedicated to this purpose only, there is a separate entrance and car parking space is available. The location is easy to access but is extremely peaceful and discreet so that absolute confidentiality and privacy is ensured.
