About me

Are you feeling stressed, anxious, angry, depressed, overwhelmed? It might feel as if you are alone struggling with your difficulties but this is where I might be able to help you. Many of us experience difficult times at some point during our lives and this is when it can be invaluable to talk to a counsellor like me. Together we can talk through what is concerning you and this can help you to either resolve difficulties or gain a better understanding of what is going on for you.

Depression, anxiety and panic attacks, anger management, addictions, self-harm, bereavement and loss, obsessive compulsive disorders, suicidal thoughts, relationship difficulties and more are among the many issues that I have helped clients to address. I worked at York Mind for a number of years which gave me considerable experience working with mental health problems.

As an accredited therapist (with a background in nursing), I have a great deal of experience and can offer you the opportunity to come and talk  through whatever is concerning you, in the knowledge that it is in complete confidence and without fear of judgement. In a gentle and compassionate way, and at your own pace, I can help explore what is causing you distress and enable you to understand what is going on for you. Together, we can then look at ways in which you might manage these problems and perhaps look for solutions to help you move forward.

Counselling can enable you to resolve difficulties, help to improve self-confidence and lead to living a more satisfying and fulfilling life.  Lasting and meaningful change can come about through the counselling process.

Sometimes it is enough to talk problems through and have some short term counselling for a few sessions.  For other people, counselling can be longer term, providing a chance for you to work through deeper issues, and to gain a greater awareness and understanding of yourself.

My counselling room is quiet and is situated in the centre of Easingwold.  It is an easy drive from Thirsk, Helmsley, York and Boroughbridge and is on a number of bus routes.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
