About me

I provide psychotherapy and counselling for individuals on short term and long term basis. The method I work in is called psychodynamic or psychoanalytic. It is based on the idea that how you think and behave is not only linked to the present but also to your past.

You may be feeling low because of a concrete distressing event, for example difficulties in or a break up of a relationship, problems at work, sexual issues, bereavement, or any other personal problems. Sometimes there isn’t any particular trigger you can name, it may just be that life has lost its meaning. You might be feeling depressed, suffer from self-doubts, have problems with addiction, you might be questioning your sexuality, your identity, or you might feel stuck and unable to move on. At such times it may be helpful to talk to someone who is not intimately connected to you or to others in your life and who will accept you and not make any judgements. These are the times you may benefit from ‘talking therapy’.

Together we will try to make sense of your experiences, for example why you find that you repeat similar patterns and why shifting these seems so difficult. Those patterns may also become apparent during our meetings and therefore more available to be understood. Understanding better yourself may lead to being able to bring greater choice and control to your life. You might discover new, more effective ways to deal with your life's issues and relationships.

I believe that it is important to create a sense of partnership with my clients that relies on trust and equality and that this in itself can foster a sense of agency and reparation.

Arranging the first meeting.

You can contact me by email or you can telephone me on 07966649463. We will arrange a meeting for an initial consultation to discuss any questions you may have and areas you would like help with. I will explain to you how I work and we will explore the possibility of us working together. You will then decide if you feel that having therapy with me might be useful to you. Equally I would also have to think if I could help you with your issues. This first meeting is without obligations as I believe it is essential to choose a therapist with whom you can feel safe and at ease.

If you decide you would like to start with me we would discuss how often we would meet. The sessions are usually once or twice a week, depending on your need. They take place each week on the same day and at the same time. A session lasts 50 minutes.

Although I have been primarily working face to face, in view of the present social distancing situation I want to add that I am also used to working with clients on line (Skype, Zoom) and on the phone and have been practicing therapy in this way already for many years.

Once you book sessions with me it is your responsibility to attend them and you will be charged even if you don’t come unless otherwise agreed.

Everything that is being said during therapy is confidential.

How long does counselling or therapy take?

It is impossible to predict how long it takes to achieve insight and a change. It requires commitment from both the client and the therapist. At the initial consultation we may decide together if you should be coming for a short period for counselling, perhaps with the aim of focusing on one specific issue, or if the therapy would be open ended. If the therapy is open ended it is useful to take stock from time to time about what has been achieved.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have trained as a counsellor (MSc) and a psychotherapist (MA). As well as working privately I have also worked in student and academic staff counselling in several London Universities and as NHS psychotherapist. Since 2004 I have been working in private practice. As a Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist I am registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I am also a member of The Institute of Psychotherapy and Social Studies and The Relational School UK. I work within strict ethical guidelines and offer a safe, confidential, non-judgemental approach.

My consulting room is in Brockley. I am a few minutes away from overground and BR stations with a link to Jubilee Line and easy access to Central, SW, SE and East London. I am in Zone 2, two stops from London Bridge. Blackheath, Greenwich, City and Docklands are also within easy reach. There are no restrictions on parking.

I work primarily in English but I can also work in Czech and Slovak.
