About me

I am an experienced psychotherapeutic counsellor, and believe that to be genuinely heard and supported without judgement is immensely helpful in resolving and processing distressing feelings or traumatic life experiences.

I am warm, professional and easy to talk to and we work collaboratively to gently unravel, resolve and heal difficult feelings with the aim of getting you back on track with greater confidence to move forwards.

I qualified as a Person-Centred counsellor in 2011 and have additional training and experience working with adults, young people and children who have experienced trauma in their lives.

Primarily, our sessions involve talking together though we may also incorporate other therapeutic approaches to suit your individual needs. I have experience working with a broad range of issues that include: anxiety, depression, P.T.S.D, bereavement and mental health difficulties. Everyone is unique in their communication styles, and it can be helpful to explore methods from Mindfulness, Somatic Experiencing or art within our sessions, if this feels appropriate.

As well as counselling privately ( www.spiralscounsellingservice.co.uk ), I also work for CLEAR-Emotional Trauma Therapy Specialists supporting children, young people and adults. I have been a Tai-Chi teacher for 30 years , am an Artist and parent.

I am practical and creative in my approach and have a wealth of meditation experience so am also comfortable to explore spiritual, religious or philosophical matters.

Testamonial

" I found (Anna 's) approach to be gentle and empathic and at the same time she challenged me to consider the areas that I needed to. Together we unravelled difficulties that I had faced in the past and considered them in the present and the future, a process that I found incredibly helpful and which also encouraged me to move forward as well as to face up to past issues. The counsellor was always reliable and flexible with timing the sessions and provided a safe and comfortable environment in which to explore some challenging issues. I would recommend Spirals Counselling Service to anyone wanting to move forward in their emotional thinking at a gentle and appropriate pace."

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
