Profile

My name is Ann and I can offer counselling in Huddersfield, Wakefield and surrounding areas. My aim is to help my clients help themselves in a comfortable, safe and non-judgemental environment. On this website you will find out more details of what counselling actually is and the different ways in which someone like me can help you.

What is Counselling?

Counselling is about helping people to explore feelings and emotions using the professional skills of a highly trained counsellor who creates a close therapeutic relationship with their client.

Counselling helps clients see their problems and issues more clearly, possibly from a different perspective. This can enable people to be far less confused about their issues and perhaps change and alter their behaviour to cope with these issues. In doing so counselling aims to help people discover their own resources and promotes their own ability to cope with their given situation.

The number of counselling sessions required varies for each client and each individual problem. The standard length of each session is 50 to 60 minutes.

How Can Counselling Help Me?

The goal of counselling is to help you find a solution to your problems, gain insights and understanding of yourself and others, express feelings, change behaviour of become more fully alive.

If you experiencing or feeling ongoing anger, depression, shame, denial, anxiety or other emotions that are causing you physical or emotional discomfort you may benefit from talking to a counsellor. After the initial assessment meeting we will work together towards an ending.

Successful counselling feels like something has changed - something is different. You feel more hope and self confidence. People may react differently to you and they may comment that something about you has changed.

What I Do

I can help with the following issues:

Relationship Problems
Loss and Bereavement
Low Self Esteem
Anxiety and Stress
Trauma and Abuse
Anger Management

My Approach

I have intergrative approach to counselling, which means that I vary the use of the theories to suit the individual needs of my clients.

I provide individual counselling in a safe environment for a variety of different issues which are creating problems for clients.

The first essential part of counselling with you is to gain your trust and establish the therapeutic relationship. To form this relationship with you, I am accepting, honest, empathetic and impartial. I will nether judge you nor tell you what to do, but will listen actively to your problems.

As a qualified Counsellor I have a responsibility to you to work within the guidelines of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy. This code covers many things including confidentiality, working within my qualifications and experience and having regular supervision to help me with your issues if required.
