Psychodynamic counselling offers you the opportunity to gain insight and understanding about aspects of yourself and about how you relate to others.
Talking confidentially in a secure and safe environment with a professional counsellor about thoughts and feelings you may have not previously considered or thought about, may offer insight as to how and why you feel the way you do.
The counselling therapeutic relationship, once developed, allows you to feel listened to and understood by someone who cares, but remains neutral and non-judgemental.
I work as a psychodynamic counsellor in my private practice in four locations in north London. Additionally, I work at two north London counselling organisations.
Psychodynamic counselling invites you to think about thoughts and feelings around the way you feel about yourself, whilst considering how these feelings may be somehow linked to your very early life experiences. By exploring these underlying feelings which often give rise to thoughts and feelings which prove difficult to manage, you may gain insight as to how these past experiences (and how you felt and thought about those experiences) have had emotional impact in your current life.
This unique counselling relationship, once developed, can allow for a shift in understanding about yourself, and about the way you might relate to key people in your life. The counselling experience, which may feel difficult at times, can also feel rewarding and prove hugely beneficial in all areas of your life. You may feel challenged at times, but also supported and contained by this therapeutic alliance.
Your first one or two sessions will be initial consultations during which we will discuss the counselling process and where you can think about whether counselling with me is something you may want to consider.
If you decide you would like to proceed, we will arrange to meet weekly, on the same day at the same time. The session time is 50 minutes, both for the initial consultation and for all future counselling sessions.
It is possible for you to have short-term (12 sessions) or long-term (open-ended) counselling with me. Beginning with short-term and then extending to long-term counselling is an option.
