About me

I have many years experience working as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and counsellor with adults, teenagers and children in private practice, the NHS and other organisations.     I am based in a central location in Hertford with good public transport connections and convenient parking.

for adults:  An initial appointment give us the chance to think about the difficulties you are facing and your life more generally, and for you to gain an impression of how I work.    Further sessions can be arranged following this initial session.    I offer intensive psychoanalytic psychotherapist; on-going once weekly sessions as well as short-term therapy.    We can think about what would be most helpful for you in the initial appointments.

for adolescents:  Depending on the age of the young person and particular circumstances, I would either meet with parents/carer for an initial appointment or the young person themselves.     From this appointment further sessions can be booked.     It is often helpful to meet with parents/carer from time to time to support the psychotherapy.

for children:    The initial appointment is with parents or carers of a child, giving the opportunity to discuss the difficulties in detail and decide what might be helpful.    Sessions are then booked for the child if appropriate.    I meet with parents to review and support the work on a regular basis.

for parents:     Where parents wish to discuss difficulties they are facing with their child or young person I offer parent sessions.    This is helpful to parents who do not feel their child or young person would attend appointments, where they wish to discuss a particular issue, or think about what might be helpful for them and their child.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BPC
British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)

The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.

BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

for children:    The initial appointment is with parents or carers of a child, giving the opportunity to discuss the difficulties in detail and decide what might be helpful.    Sessions are then booked for the child if appropriate.    I meet with parents to review and support the work on a regular basis.

At times following the initial appointment, the on-going sessions are with parents/carers for us to continue to think together about the child's struggles or difficulties.

for young people:  Where appropriate the initial appointment is with parents or carers, (as above).   On other occasions it is more appropriate for the initial appointment either to include the young person or to be with the young person on their own.    From the initial appointment further sessions can be booked.   A decision is made during the first appointment whether the parent/carer would meet from time to time to review the therapy.

for adults:  An initial appointment can be made for us to discuss the difficulties and for you to gain an impression of how I work.    Further sessions can be arranged following this initial session.
