I am psychotherapeutic counsellor offering help with psychological difficulties to individuals over 18.
In my therapeutic work, I draw upon from different schools of thought/theoretical orientations, including: psychodynamic approach, humanistic, existential, as well as some postmodern ideas. I consider myself to be an integrative counsellor.
Central to my approach to therapy, is the belief in the importance of the client’s unique experience of the world. This means that our work will revolve around trying to understand your experience of the world, its’ origins (why do you experience the world in the way you do) and what it might mean for your day to day life. This is achieved through exploration of your difficulties, which helps to shed light on the possibilities of change.
The first session is an opportunity to meet one another and discuss what has brought you to therapy, and how your “difficulty” could be addressed. This is also the time to ask any questions you may have, and decide whether we are happy to work together.
Sessions are scheduled weekly and last approximately 50 minutes each. The length of therapy varies depending on the difficulties you are having and what you would like to achieve in therapy. Short term therapy may take between 6 and 16 sessions whereas long term may go on for 1 to 2 years.
