About me

I strongly believe that the success of therapeutic work depends on the quality of the relationship that develops between the client and the therapist or counsellor. Every such relationship is unique and must meet your needs if it is to be useful.

I offer a space in which you will deeply heard and supported when exploring painful issues or recurring patterns. You may start from a position of crisis or simply with a desire to review how your life is unfolding and how you might shape the way forward and realise more potential.

You may have been affected by the Covid crisis, perhaps through isolation or financial impact, or through loss of someone you were close to. I am very happy to work through these issues with you, or to support you in grieving.

Whatever we do it is likely that we will also look at how you develop self regard, and how you create and maintain the boundaries you need in your life. Or, if you have difficulty being flexible, we can explore how you might loosen up and come into deeper contact with others whilst continuing to feel safe.

Most people bring useful insights about their past but I will also focus on whatever is going on for you right now. I may suggest that we work with dreams and images, or explore the emotional layers beneath physical sensations and health problems. There usually are some.

I have worked with my own issues in a variety of settings throughout my adult life. Sometimes this has been to deal with long term patterns and sometimes to deal with immediate crises. I understand how difficult it can be to start this process or to move into new stages of identifying and sharing what's going on. Every corner turned brings new challenges, but you will also find new vistas and find renewed energy, even if the going is tough at times.

Having trained later in life I am able to bring a wealth of life experience to my work as a therapist but I have a youthful outlook and connect well with people of all ages.

In addition to one to one work I also see couples who are going through difficult times or wish to deepen their relationship.

If you might be interested in working with me but are uncertain then let's talk on the phone or online to discuss this. I am happy to spend up to 15 min free of charge. There is no obligation to continue into counselling or therapy. For initial contact email is preferred.

Sessions are, of course, confidential.

Training, qualifications & experience

In 2009 I undertook the One Year Course in Psychotherapy at Spectrum Therapy, London. This led me to join Spectrum’s experiential training. I gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychotherapy in 2012 and completed the Spectrum Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2014. I am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and I carry professional indemnity.

In addition to working with adults I have significant experience of working with young people (>16yrs) through a placement in Further Education. I have also trained to work with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse and carried out voluntary work in this field for a charity in Wales.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
