About me

Hi, I'm Andy! I'm a counsellor, psychotherapist and clinical supervisor with NHS experience. I support adults and younger people from the age of 10 up mostly through face-to-face appointments. I am a relaxed, informal person and I have worked with people to;

* Understand and address problems with anxiety
* Build feelings of confidence and self-esteem
* Appropriately manage stress and unhelpful behaviours
* Address unhelpful patterns of thinking
* Explore and understand their thoughts and feelings
* Become more motivated to achieve their goals

Each problem a person experiences is unique so I'm very happy to have a chat about how we could work together. I have particular experience supporting young people, men and boys as well as members of the LGBTQ+ community and neurodivergent individuals.

I hold an enhanced DBS certificate, membership with the British Psychological Society (BPS), am accredited with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and also hold professional accreditation with the National Counselling Society (NCS). I have experience offering counselling within charity and education sectors as well as in an NHS Trust.

While training to become a counsellor, I gained experience working with the Local Authority supporting the care needs of older adults and people with physical disabilities. I also have also worked with the local GP Federation and within integrated care teams, supporting people with complex care needs as well as in business development as part of an Academic Health Science Network.

I have worked in an NHS youth counselling service since 2016. I initially started training working with young people in this service before becoming employed where, in addition to counselling, I worked to support other counsellors in their work placement. I helped train these counsellors into the service and also provided supervision before I resigned this part of the role at the end of 2022 to reduce my working hours.

My training integrates different approaches so that I can hopefully provide people with something that suits them. My belief is that the core foundation of counselling is an authentic relationship where we both feel safe and open. I hope that, over time, we might be able to get to know each other and I can support you however possible. Please do get in touch if you'd like to discuss how I might be able to support you, your child or someone that you know.

I'll look forward to hearing from you!

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
