I offer weekly or twice weekly psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
I also offer time limited therapy where this is appropriate to the needs and/or circumstances of the person concerned.
I also offer clinical supervision to psychodynamically oriented practitioners as well as consultation to managers and workers in clinical and Mental Health settings in groups or as individuals.
In working as a therapist with individuals my aim is to offer a space in which to help the client reflect on their thoughts and feelings in relation to both past and present experience. Clarifying and coming to terms with past experience can be a healing experience. The aim of this therapy is, over time, to increase the person's capacity to reflect upon themselves and their relationships in a way that makes them more resilient to stress and change in their lives. This approach does not have an emphasis on working with specific symptoms but seeks to consider the person as a whole and place any symptoms in the context of the person's life story.
Assessment. I like to meet with anyone wishing to start therapy for an initial assessment. This meeting lasts one and a half hours and allows for the exploration the what it is that brings the person to seek therapy and to explore this in relation to their past experience. At the end of this time we can decide together whether we think psychoanalytic therapy can help. If the individual decides to start the assessment is charged as the first session. If for whatever reason they decide not to start, no charges made for this session.
