About me

Hi,

I am a fully qualified counsellor with many years experience working in Private practice in Leeds city centre and also as a Community Counsellor in inner city Children's centres providing free counselling to parents of young children as part of the Sure Start initiative. I have extensive experience of providing support to individuals with many different problems or difficulties. I have worked alongside individuals of all ages, with differing ethnic and cultural backgrounds for between six weeks and up to two years.

Anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship issues and post natal depression are common problems I have worked with and I understand how completely debilitating and exhausting it can be to try to manage your day to day life whilst trying to "battle" against these feelings and mask how difficult things really are from everyone around you.

As a counsellor, I can offer you a confidential service where issues and concerns which are perhaps too difficult to talk about with family and friends can be shared and thought about.

I am a genuine, warm, respectful and caring individual. I will work alongside you to try and make sense of the difficulties you are encountering. These can be immediate difficulties that have presented themselves or an accumulation of things that have simply become too overwhelming to manage.

I trained in the Relational Approach to Counselling and therefore I believe that relationships are of fundamental importance in;

  • The development of personality and a sense of self
  • The difficulty clients bring to therapy (relations with the self and relations with other people)
  • The therapeutic process (the therapy relationship is the heart of the process)

Having been trained in this approach relationship issues is a particular area which is of interest to me.

Keeping the significance of relationships in mind, I am aware of the importance of the strong working alliance that needs to form within the counselling relationship in order for change and growth to happen. Every person is individual and every relationship unique therefore I have a flexible way of working and will always seek to adapt and work in a way that best suits your needs.

Counselling can be a very difficult and daunting step and I am always mindful of this. I can offer you a warm and safe environment and will work with you at your pace to build a working relationship built on mutual trust, respect and understanding.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
