About me

Hello, my name is An. I imagine you are here because you are struggling in some way. I appreciate that it can be daunting to admit you are not coping well, to reach out and ask for help. You may have looked at other profiles on this site and are possibly wondering which therapist to choose.

Research has found that the biggest factor in determining a successful outcome in therapy is the relationship you build with your counsellor.

I believe that the characteristics of a good relationship are:

1/ feeling safe and at ease with your counsellor
2/ being able to be completely yourself (warts and all) without having to wear a mask or keep up appearances
3/ being able to trust your counsellor and say how you really feel, what you really think
4/ being able to give your counsellor honest feedback on how you experience therapy, what is helpful and what is not and raise concerns of practical matters if you have them.

I understand that we are all different and that we get on well with certain people and not so well with others. The best way to find out if we 'click' is to get in touch and book an appointment for a free, no obligation introductory session. Call me on 07876 114399 or email me on anandries@hotmail.com.

I have helped people over the past 22 years as a GP, hospice doctor and as a counsellor. I've been told I'm down to earth, warm and accepting. I offer a space free of judgement in a comfortable and discrete location about 10 minutes walking distance from Uckfield station. There is free parking available. I also offer online and telephone sessions.

What I bring to the table is not only textbook knowledge but also my personal experience of overcoming fears, obstacles and uncertainty.

My areas of special interest are:

Nervous system dysregulation

Anxiety and Depression

Bereavement Counselling (including miscarriage, termination of pregnancy)

Chronic physical health problems, cancer, terminal illness.

Couples counselling

Relationship issues

Stress

Work related issues

Some of the feedback I received from my clients:

" I never believed I could 'open up' as much as I have. To have An let me talk and encourage me was enlightening!"

" What was most helpful for me was having a safe environment to discuss, share and express my fears, worries and thoughts about my changing relationships with my parents and about bereavement"

"An was very empathic and professional in my opinion."

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
