About me

I am an experienced therapist offering short or long term counselling and psychotherapy. I deal with issues including depression, loss or bereavement, anger, anxiety, relationship and mental health difficulties, as well as exploring who you are and life directions.

I can see people online or in person. In-person sessions are either in a central Oxford consulting room, or walking and talking in a quiet park. Where possible, I prefer to have our first session face to face.

You may be seeking help because you are going through a period of crisis or pain, or because you have felt stuck, anxious or depressed for some time. There may be past or present issues or relationship that you feel the need to explore. You may have experienced, or be starting to experience, mental health difficulties. My core approach is psychodynamic, which means that we will work together to get to the root of current or ongoing issues, and try to make sense of them and work through the feelings involved.  We will also think about how your present lifestyle and outlook may be impacting on your psychological wellbeing.

Psychodynamic therapy is about trying to get to the roots of psychological or emotional distress. During periods of crisis or loss - and sometimes for no apparent reason - issues that have been buried in the past can surface and cause problems in the present. Exploring the past, as well as gaining a clear understanding of what is going on for you right now,  can shed light on how to go forward.

Therapy can provide a confidential space in which it is possible to talk about your situation in a way that often you can't do with family or friends.  Facing difficult feelings together can lead to a deeper healing. My approach is not about offering advice or one-size-fits-all techniques, or trying to cheer you up. What I am to offer is the right balance of support and challenge to help you understand yourself better and discover more satisfying ways of thinking, feeling, relating and living.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have an MA in Modern Languages, and an MSt in Psychodynamic Practice, from Oxford University. The latter includes both a Certificate in Psychodynamic Studies and a Diploma in Psychodynamic Practice. I have also done post-qualification Jungian training with the GAP.  I was until recently Chair of the Oxford Psychotherapy Society.

I am accredited by and registered with the UKCP and I abide by their code of ethics and practice.

I have several years experience of offering counselling and psychotherapy in different NHS settings, including Psychological Services. I have also worked in a large workplace organisation, offering therapy for work-related and personal issues, and have experience of working with people with mental health issues.

I have a wide professional experience of working with people from diverse cultures and religious backgrounds. I can offer therapy in Spanish, and also have a good understanding of French and Italian.
