About me

If you are not quite sure how to begin making your life better but feel you need to make a start and a change, then please contact me.

I am a qualified and Integrative counsellor. This means that I will work with you to ensure we find the most effective way forward for you.

I understand that  we are all different and therefore we need different approaches to work through problems and issues.

Personally speaking, I now realise what a benefit counselling would have been to me years ago. Losing my father at the age of twelve, I encountered grief, loss and discriminatory behaviour. These life experiences have helped me to understand and empathise with a wide range of emotions, fears and difficulties. They have also motivated me to help others.

I am non judgemental and accepting of my clients, whatever their situations my be.

Client's presenting issues might include loss, depression, anxiety, relationship, bereavement and others.

My experience in counselling includes working with bereavement in a hospice, a men's shelter, NHS counselling staff, Sheffield  Hallam University. Currently private practice.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified, registered and accredited counsellor with the British Association of Psychotherapists and Counsellors. (MBACP Accredited).

My counselling experience covers a wide variety of situations and needs. These include:

  • Sheffield Hallam University, Senior Wellbeing Practitioner and Counsellor to students and staff.

  • Working with NHS staff in Derbyshire Community Health Services - with a scope of both personal and professional issues.

  • Supporting residents of a men's homeless shelter, whose needs were varied, far reaching and often complex.

  • Bereavement counselling at St. Luke's Hospice, supporting family members, helping them cope with and understand the myriad of emotions, and effects of losing  loved ones. Guiding them through their adjustments of life.

  • Private clients, whose issues have included:
      - Low self esteem and self confidence
      - Family problems
      - Loneliness
      - Relationships
      - Work related issues
      - Bereavement
      - Depression and stress
      - Cultural and cross - cultural issues

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
