About me

I come from a background of nursing, qualifying within the NHS as a first level registered general nurse in 1987. Over the years I found myself developing a special interest in the individuals and families whose lives were touched by personal tragedy. I noticed ordinary people demonstrate remarkable acts of strength, courage and fortitude in the face of adversity. To this day I remain humbled by those who invited me to stay with them during private moments of distress, and perhaps even crisis. I believe it was during these times when I first learned how best to respond in a professional, yet real manner. This way of 'being' seems to help the success of my therapeutic work with others.

I now work as a highly qualified, experienced psychodynamic, analytic counsellor and offer an effective style of talking therapy recognised for psychological health and wellbeing. I'm passionate about my work and aim to facilitate sessions to a standard of excellence, so you can get the best from my professional expertise and from your therapeutic experience. By talking together in confidence, I can help you understand why you think, feel and do those things you do! Opportunities are then created for effective, lasting growth and change, and also for an acceptance of what perhaps, cannot be changed.  Emotions can be powerful and often impact upon our bodies too; it really does help to talk.

Clients often tell me they enjoy the way I work and how helpful sessions are to their lives. Some clients arrive for counselling and after a short time of working together, find that unpleasant feelings, (to include those linked with stress, anxiety) no longer dominate. Others choose to embark upon a journey of self-discovery to find new meaning, purpose and a deep sense of fulfilment to their lives. I listen carefully and actively engage with you so that you feel heard, understood, valued. The process helps increase lots of positive attributes to include your individual worth, self esteem, confidence etc., and it improves relationships. Confident in my ability to support you when you're feeling vulnerable, I strive to work sensitively with you, yet always in a consistent, purposeful way. I care and your feelings matter.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
