Alison Foxford MBACP (Registered) Dip. Counselling, Cert. Supervision
I am an experienced integrative counsellor who believes that the most important aspect of counselling is the relationship between counsellor and client. My specialism is trauma and I work with adults, young people and children who have experienced abuse in childhood or as an adult from private practice at my home, a calm, safe and confidential space where you can work at your own pace.
Working with: trauma, post traumatic stress, dissociative disorders, stress, depression, anxiety, loss, work difficulties, relationships, anger, addiction and self harm, however if you would like to talk to me about a specific issue that I have not mentioned please call me and we can talk it through together.
My particular area of expertise is working with trauma survivors, both those affected directly and indirectly i.e. any one of us can be affected by an experience that has happened to us or someone else. This may include domestic abuse, childhood sexual abuse, those who have seen active service or other traumatic experiences such as a road traffic accident all of which may lead to symptoms of post traumatic stress.
I offer both short or long term therapy.
As I believe we are all individual and unique, my integrative training allows me to offer my clients therapy which is developed in partnership with them. Whether you prefer talking therapy or would like to incorporate other therapy models, such as art and therapeutic play techniques including sandplay and puppets I will work with you to enable you to discover what suits you best.
I will not influence you in any way, your counselling session is your time to talk about whatever it is that is important to you at that moment. Together we will look for ways for you to work through issues which may be affecting your life.
It will be during our initial assessment meeting that we can decide if we want to work together.
Children and young people under 16 are assessed with a parent or carer, although ultimately it is the child/young persons decision to work with me. Children can use therapeutic play to work through emotions, trauma and other difficulties allowing them to show me through their play rather than through words what is troubling them.
