About me

I am a BACP accredited psychotherapeutic counsellor. My counselling approach is integrative and geared to meet your difficulties; I work with a range of psychotherapeutic techniques: psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and mindfulness.

My role as a counsellor is to facilitate an awareness and curiosity of your past and present experiences; so enabling you to gently veer from repeating unhelpful patterns of reacting to situations, to others, and toward yourself. I work with you in a safe and confidential space. The relationship I have with you is of principal importance, and all we talk of is confidential. I am not there to judge you or tell you what to do, but to support you through the process of exploration.

The ethical underpinning of my work is based on the BACP Ethical Framework: with a commitment to equality and inclusiveness in my work; I am open to differing backgrounds, sexual orientation, race, health difficulties and disability.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have over 20 years experience working one to one with people, primarily, as psychotherapeutic counsellor, but also as an occupational counsellor in mental health services and as a university dyslexia and mental health tutor (incl. autism and ADHD).

As a counsellor I have worked in a wide range of settings including the NHS; occupational health services; employer assisted programmes; as a counsellor in return to work programmes; for private companies and in private practice.

I have considerable experience working with Specific Learning Difficulties and especially dyslexia and ADHD. With a SpLD you may have experienced of feeling misunderstood and different, which could have affected your relationships with others and yourself.  Counselling can help you understand these difficulties, gain perspective and navigate them with emotional balance and compassion.

My qualifications:

  • BA (hons)
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Guidance and Assessment
  • Post Qualifying Cert in CBT
  • Diploma in Relational Mindfulness
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Dyslexia Diagnosis and Assessment
  • SpLD Teaching Practising Certificate
  • BPS Level A Occupational Testing

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
