About me

Hello, I am Alex, a fully qualified Gestalt Psychotherapist and Supervisor, with 12 years of experience in private practice, institutions and the NHS. I offer a creative, authentic and personable approach to counselling and psychotherapy and supervision for individuals and couples online (via Zoom).

Challenging life transitions, difficulties in work, love or family relationship issues, anxiety, panic attacks or stress and burnout, feeling low or unsatisfied - these are some of the experiences people have come to me with and found our work helpful.

Whether it is personal growth or a specific difficulty you want to work on, we can explore the options and arrangement that will work for you in our initial consultation.

About this process

It is a big step to start counselling or therapy - often it’s a difficult decision to even come to a first session. Using the support of a therapist does not mean you are ill or dysfunctional, on the contrary, it means you have a healthy sense of what you might need.

Any place is a good place to start from, and your questions, doubts or reservations are very welcome in my practice.

The next step for you:

I would like to invite you to book an exploratory session without further commitment, in which we can discuss your reasons for coming, what you are looking for and get to know each other a little. This will help both of us decide if and how we want to work together and for you to decide whether therapy in general, and with me in particular, is the right choice for you at this point in your life. If not, I am happy to guide you in other directions or send you some references.

Please contact me via email to arrange an initial session (online via Zoom).

NOTICE: I have moved my UK practice online and will only offer sessions via Zoom video calls going forward.

About my approach and how I work

The therapy style I offer will be slightly different with each person; you will get me, responding to you, rather than a fixed school of thought or technique.

In our work we will also pay attention to what happens in the space between us, as well as make links to the larger circumstances of your life, including your history and current experiences, when useful.

My main training background is in Gestalt psychotherapy, which is a holistic and relational approach focusing on exploring here-and-now experiences, with influences from Eastern philosophy and psychodynamic theory. The assumption being that by gaining new awareness, you will feel more able to change, act, finish what needs to be finished, accept or move on.

Training, qualifications & experience

Training: I am a qualified Gestalt Psychotherapist (PGDip from Metanoia Institute/Middlesex University) with a BSc in Psychology and I have additional training in Systemic Constellations for Teams and Families, and in Systemic Couples Counselling, as well as some training in Art Therapy and Play Therapy.

Working with adults: I have been practising psychotherapeutic counselling for about 12  years with adults in private practice, and for Counseling Agencies within the NHS.

Supervision: Please see my supervisor's profile.

Coaching: I also work with people in businesses on their leadership style, and support founders and team leaders with setting up functioning teams, putting personal values into business actions,  and staying alert to the dynamics in their place of work which need attention.

Working with children and young people: I have over 7 years experience of working with children and teenagers in various settings, among these as a play therapist with The Place To Be, in my own creative workshops and teaching, and working with parents and their children as a counsellor.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
