About me

ALASTAIR ROBERTS Bsc(Eng), MA, Registered Member MBACP (Accred), AMAC

Hi, I’m Alastair. I am a qualified and accredited existential and CBT therapist and coach, with over 7 years of clinical experience. My practise is in central London in EC1 (Holborn, 5 minutes from Chancery Lane and Farringdon underground stations).

My practise model integrates existential and philosophical counselling with Rational Emotive Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. Please visit my website at for details on how I work, the issues I work with.

In a nutshell, I help people to explore life issues and develop healthy strategies to alleviate distress and bring less of it upon themselves as they live forward. I offer an empathic attitude coupled with a clear approach to my work. This creates a warm and supportive base in which clients can really look at themselves and their lives, and make authentic choices in the present.  I offer both support in a crisis with help to identify and achieve short-term goals, as well as taking a longer-term approach for deeper work that is connected to profound life changes. We will open up the choices in the dilemmas you’re faced with, understand what you value, help you to choose amongst the options available and then take committed action. Coming to counselling is an act of taking authentic ownership of your life. The work is a commitment to growth and understanding, and it may be painful as you leave your comfort zone and face your difficulties. Alastair will be a sensitive and respectful companion on this journey.

In particular, we will look at your situation through the lens of existential philosophy, exploring how your life is manifesting such issues as values, authenticity, uncertainty, conflict, struggle, meaning, finitude, choice, freedom, isolation and relationality. We will consider whether you’re living an authentic life, whether you’re consciously owning enough of your possibilities, and how you might enact the changes you want.
