I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and contemporary psychoanalyst. My work is based around the individual's narrative and how they arrived at where they are today. I am particularly interested in issues of class, race, gender and sexuality. My patients come to me to deal with, among other things, sexual relationships and family issues, couples counselling, depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, and addiction. My approach is to encourage patients to understand their difficulties and to help them work through them. I aim to create a safe environment where the therapeutic relationship can develop. The relationship between therapist and patient is central to the therapy and by understanding what is going on in the consulting room it helps to understand what is going on in the wider world.
Contemporary Psychoanalysis goes beyond, and questions, notions of pathology and diagnosis. It is informed by feminist theory, modern philosophy and socio-cultural understanding. The aim is not to have a fixed idea how a person should be but rather to listen, understand and respect individuality and personal history. The therapy is open ended and patients can set their own aims and goals which may shift as the therapy progresses. Patients are seen weekly for one or more sessions depending on need or desire.
I am a training analyst and supervisor and offer consultancy around work place issues.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained at the Philadelphia Association and am now a member of The Site for Contemporary Psychoanalysis. I have worked in private practice since 1992. During this time I have also worked in the voluntary sector and the NHS. I was the HIV Co-ordinator for Hammersmith and Fulham Bereavement and Disability Service and until March 2013 I worked part time as a Counsellor in Primary Care for Kensington and Chelsea Primary Care Psychological Health.
Areas of counselling I deal with
- Gender dysphoria
- Low self-confidence
- Low self-esteem
- Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Passive aggressive behaviour
- Relationship issues
Other areas of counselling I deal with
I am particularly interested in working with shame and its paralysing effect.
My fees are £55 for individuals and £85 for couples.
I understand that in today's world, because of work patterns, it can be difficult to make regular weekly appointments. In these circumstances, once a relationship has developed, I am happy to work via Skype.
