About me

My name is Alan and I offer a face to face, Online Counselling Therapy service or by telephone to couples and individuals.

I am a qualified Registered Counsellor registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. Registration Number: 705063.

I have worked with a variety of clients over six years who have bought a wide variety of issues so I have a great deal of experience to offer you.

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a process where you as the client are provided with a safe and confidential place to discuss the issues that affect your life.

I believe the most important aspect is to be able to listen.

Often we are heard in our day to day lives but how many people actually listen?

The issues that face anyone can be multiple these can include:

  • suffering from low mood
  • feeling down
  • depressed
  • relationship problems
  • bereavement
  • financial issues

You also may simply want to re-evaluate your life and need to speak to someone who can help you look at the issues you raise objectively.

There are many other issues/concerns that you may wish to bring to the sessions a more comprehensive list is in the other areas box at the end of the profile.

I offer counselling to individuals, couples and families.

How I work....

Couples

I really enjoy working with couples and can offer a practical and cost-effective therapy to help your relationship. I particularly welcome single-sex couples.

I work with a 3 step solution-focused approach.

Step 1: Through the history of your relationship which I call a timeline. Together we can look at what was good for you as a couple and what changed.

Step 2: In partnership look at together the issues that divide you.

Step 3: In collaboration look at solutions and ways of working.

I have found this to be an efficient and effective way of working. Most of my couples only require on average seven sessions. Naturally, this depends on the complexity of issues bought.

To help the process I may ask you to do exercises in between sessions. This is not compulsory but will enhance the therapeutic experience.

One to One Counselling

I really enjoy one to one counselling.

I work with a 3 step solution-focused approach which my clients find useful.

Step 1: A timeline where if you wish we can go through the significant events and relationships you have had.

-This helps me to get to know you and clients have often realised aspects about themselves that they had not considered.

Step 2: In partnership, we can look at the issues and concerns that you have.

Step 3: In collaboration look at solutions and coping mechanisms

I have found this to be an efficient and effective way of working. Most of my clients only require on average five sessions. Naturally, this depends on the complexity of issues bought.

To help the process I may ask you to do exercises in between sessions. This is not compulsory but will enhance the therapeutic experience.

Issues at work

We all at some time experience problems in the workplace and sometimes this can take over our life.

Unhealthy indicators such as constant stress, depression, unable to sleep leading to excessive days off sick.

These unpleasant experiences can be caused by both work and personal issues.

Unless this can be rectified this will likely lead to dismissal or a breakdown.

I can help you look at these issues using my three-step model.

Step 1: I will go through with you your timeline. This is where we look at your life, significant relationships and events.

-This helps me to get to know you and clients have often realised aspects about themselves that they had not considered.

Step 2: In partnership, we can look at the issues and concerns that you have.

Step 3: In collaboration look at solutions and coping mechanisms

The 3 step model is similar to one to one counselling but if you wish will look at specific work issues.

To help the process I may ask you to do exercises in between sessions. This is not compulsory but will enhance the therapeutic experience.

Work Place Mediation

I have over 20 years experience in various work places and use my counselling skills to find ways of helping teams to work more effectively and harmoniously.

I am able to assist in looking at disputes between colleagues or Managers and their staff.

I am a trained workplace mediator with the Centre of Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR).

To do this I use a 4 step approach.

Step 1: Talk to each member of the team and note the issues and the solutions they would like.

Step 2: Facilitating the dialogue between team members so that each member understand the others point of view.

Step 3: Help Negotiate a future way of working.
