About me

Welcome to my profile.

Does your life feel unmanageable at the moment? Would you like to be a  more confident, happier you ?    I have over 20 years experience as a counsellor and am qualified to MSc level. I work with individuals , couples and  groups and have experience working with bereavement, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, relationship problems, work related issue and many more issues that can diminish people's confidence and zest for life.

I create an environment that feels safe and non-judgmental, where we can openly explore the difficulties that you are currently experiencing. i will help you build an understanding of your problems and  how they have developed. You will build a greater understanding and acceptance of yourself, learn how to tap into your own creative strengths and abilities, and develop new perspectives of yourself and how to cope with challenging life situations.

I am an accredited British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) counsellor/ psychotherapist, a BACP member and I am registered with UKRCP (UK register of counsellors/psychotherapists). I have over 20 years experience working as a counsellor in various settings. These have included counselling in a young peoples' counselling service, in local educational settings and with the WEA , working for a company (a leading Employment Assistance provider- EAP) which provides counselling for employees all over the UK, as well as in private practice. Working within an EAP (assessing and counselling employees), has given me insight into work related issues .

I originally studied the psychodynamic model of counselling and psychotherapy and over the years I have embraced other approaches such as CBT and solution focused-predominately for working on strategies to tackle specific problems within a short time framework. I adopt values from person centred therapy - namely: empathy, unconditional positive regard/ respect, and congruence (being genuine as a human being as well as a counsellor) and ideas of personal growth and empowerment. I work short term (usually 6-12 sessions) and also longer term, in psychodynamic based work. I offer counselling over the telephone where appropriate and am experienced in working on line. As a professional counsellor / psychotherapist,  I abide by the BACP code of ethics.

I  offer supervision to individuals and groups. I also supervise trainee counsellors. I accept referrals from GPs and other professionals.
