Profile

My practice is based in Victoria and Balham, where I offer confidential counselling and psychotherapy, including CBT; in a nonjudgmental and safe environment. Therapy is a respectful and supportive process that can assist you to meet life's challenges and move forward with a sense of purpose and meaning.

Whether you are struggling with emotional, personal or relationship difficulties, have concerns about your future or want to understand your past, counselling and psychotherapy can help.

I am a qualified and experienced Chartered Counselling Psychologist providing short-term and long-term counselling and psychotherapy. As a Counselling Psychologist I incorporate the core features of counselling and traditional psychotherapy with current research findings to alleviate psychological and emotional distress through talking.

I have experience of assisting people, from all walks of life, address and overcome a broad range of common difficulties related to depression, anxiety, poor self-esteem, loss and relationship issues as well as more specific problems such as panic attacks, phobias and childhood issues. Together we can think about what is happening to you, and help you to gain new perspectives and make changes which can assist you to move forward in your life.

I work using a range of therapeutic approaches widely used in the private and public sectors. These include;

  • Humanistic Person Centred Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
  • Integrative Therapy

I combine aspects from each approach to provide supportive, collaborative, client-focused therapy. This is based on my belief that no one approach has all the answers, and that helpful therapy needs to be adapted to meet each individual clients needs. This means I’ll work alongside you using the type of therapy that best suits you as an individual and takes in to account your personal needs and circumstances.

Following an initial assessment to discuss your difficulties and requirements, we’ll discuss the most appropriate approach for you;

  • Short term therapy generally lasting for 15 – 20 weekly sessions. This type of therapy focuses on a particular difficulty you are struggling with and offers you the opportunity to feel heard, develop new self-insights and take up new challenges to create fresh opportunities.
  • CBT is also short term, and lasts up to 15 - 20 sessions. This is a directive problem-solving therapy which is structured around a particular area of distress. CBT involves you actively completing specific tasks between sessions to identify and challenge unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving, and adopting more helpful perspectives and ways of coping to implement change.
  • Exploratory therapy takes 50+ sessions. It aims to address your obvious and hidden conflicts and issues through in-depth explorations of how your early experiences and relationships may be related to your current distress. Long term exploratory work can bring about emotional, personal and relationship developments and initiate a more fundamental shift in your well-being.

Within each therapeutic approach you’ll have the opportunity to express your true feelings, and reflect on your experiences and the possible meanings behind them in safety and without fear of judgement. We’ll also discuss any concerns you may have and review your progress.
