Relationship Issues

July 17th, 2009 by Lorraine Balfe MBACP (Accred.)UKRCP Reg.Ind. Counsellor/Psychotherapist

Relationship issues can be difficult to resolve when one person is not willing to communicate or try counselling.

Can counselling help? I believe that counselling can be of value even if only one person attends counselling as it can help that person to develop an overview of their relationship.

The counsellor will endeavour to understand the clients world and as such will not have the other persons viewpoint as they would have if two attended. However, there can still be therapeutic value if the client is open to exploring their relationship as they see it and sometimes this can change the client and have an effect on the relationship.

Counselling will not save all relationships. It can help by opening up communication which saves some but sometimes it helps others to realise that it is over.
