What is a counselling psychologist?
January 28th, 2010 by Louise Kadayer
A Counselling Psychologist will provide counselling intervention using the latest research and approaches that are specifically tailored to each individual.
We may use cognitive behaviour therapy, behavioural treatment, or other forms of psychotherapy. We may also use specialised assessments to identify what is the best approach for you and, in some cases, where the exact problems lie if you are unsure. We can help with a broad range of difficulties including depression, anxiety, marital difficulties, social anxiety, phobias, bipolar and obsessive compulsive disorder.
Counselling Psychologists usually undertake 7-8 years of university and post university training, continually update their qualifications and are always subject to some form of supervision. Counselling Psychologists have strict codes of ethical guidelines from the British Psychological Society and from any other bodies to which they belong.
