Hi & welcome to my profile. I work as a BACP (Accred) Counsellor/Psychotherapist and Qualified Clinical Supervisor. I work as an integrative therapist, which means that I use different approaches directly tailored to suit the requirements of my clients and yet mainly draw from Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy , Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy all of which I have training in.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy in particular is excellent for dealing with Eating Disorders and Personality Disorders which are my particular areas of expertise.
I qualified in 2005 as a General Practitioner and very quickly recognised a common denominator between the majority of my clients, low self-esteem, poor body image and problems with assertiveness (they tended to use anger as a way of communicating or were easily intimidated and/or bent against their will) and limited resources regarding self efficacy. So many of my clients were presenting in this way, with self-loathing and a limited ability to be kind to themselves. Furthermore, I was working with a lot of clients who were clinically obese or indeed painfully skinny and I learnt very quickly that even the ones presenting with normal body weight were often abusing themselves by self-harming and substance abuse, poor diet, often coupled with difficult and challenging relationships with themselves and others, and were clearly using food to self-medicate, either by overeating or indeed under-eating or using other kinds of mind altering substances.
When considering all of the above I strongly felt that I needed to embark on further training and in 2007 I trained as a Master Practitioner in Eating Disorders and Obesity at The National Centre for Eating Disorders (NCFED). I am now a Registered Supervisor with the NCFED and I am working again this year (4th time) as an assistant to Deanne Jade, Principal and Founder of the NCFED, in order to ensure my skills remain cutting edge.
I have a solid reputation of being a caring and approachable therapist with an ability to very quickly put my clients at ease and yet more importantly an ability to directly get to the heart of they're presenting issues and together get the job done, whilst supporting my clients to move into psychological health and in turn helping them to live the life they deserve to live. I am passionate about my work and love what I do and consider myself extremely lucky to be working in a job I have so much energy for.
I am recognised as one of The National Centre of Eating Disorders most experienced specialists in the world of Eating Disorders and in Kent and I am currently running two courses related to this field of work.
1) "Take the food, weight & shape off your mind'" (date to follow early in 2018) (although I have had therapists on my courses with much success ) details on my website.
2) Working With Eating Disorders Ethically and With Competence (for professionals working in this world and who would like to be able to support clients presenting with distressed eating issues, starting again on February 17th 2018 and account for CPD hours) details on my Website.
