I offer a warm and friendly welcome to all those who come to me needing therapy. I have a down to earth approach and I have had a successful practice in Sussex since 1984, beginning in Lewes and for the past 12 years in Worthing.
After receiving my BA Degree from the University of Sussex, I trained for 5 years with the London Institute of Psychosynthesis, receiving diplomas in both Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have supervised and trained Counsellors in the Sussex and West Yorkshire areas for many years.
I also use Hypnotherapy and have a special service for people wanting to give up smoking, drinking and control their weight.
In 30 years as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist I have worked with a wide variety of clients with a very wide range of problems. I continue to work with whatever issues my clients bring to me but during this time I have also developed a speciality in working with people suffering from OCD (see my article).
My core belief is that each person who chooses to have therapy is a unique individual with a unique problem. Having a wide variety of techniques enables me to find a way of working with each person that is right for them.
Above all, a successful therapy is not just about healing and mending, it is also about growing and moving forward in life with increased confidence and self esteem.
Work with Couples:
When two people agree to share their lives, no matter how much they love each other, a whole set of 'rules and regs' come into being which are unconscious to each party involved. These are based on each partner's history, internalised messages and expectations. External stresses and strains apply pressure to the relationship and then cracks may appear.
What therapy does is enable each partner to express feelings and needs in a safe environment where they may be discussed and shared away from the pressure. Helpful suggestions may be offered that enable better communication and understanding of where each partner is coming from. The therapist's job is to help the couple come to an amicable arrangement, whether that is to stay together or to seek an end to the present relationship with understanding and care.
I work with both short term (6 session) contracts and long term (open ended) contracts.
I offer half hour introductory sessions for both individuals and couples so that we can meet and take a look at the problem before a commitment is made.
I am UKCP Registered, fully insured, and work within UKCP ethical guidelines.

Supervision & training
I trained in Integrative Supervision Skills with Metanoia Institute in the late 1980s. Since then I have supervised both trainee counsellors and qualified counsellors at all levels of experience in the Sussex and West Yorkshire areas. My approach is Integrative and I like to check out the methods and models each of my supervisees is using and work from their models, viewing the client from their perspective. My main aim is to support the counsellor, recognising that the work we do is difficult and demanding. I am also interested in the deeper processes at work within the client's life and relationships and also the transferences and parallel process at work within the counselling relationship.View supervision profile
