Profile

I am a fully trained counsellor and psychotherapist in private practice in Southgate. I trained using an integrative approach and would describe my way of working as 'through a psychodynamic understanding and an empathic connection' with my clients.

I believe that it is possible for us all to find the answers to the difficulties that life presents us with and that the aim of both counselling and psychotherapy is to experience mental, emotional and spiritual well-being, so that we are able to manage and experience our lives more fully.

I use the BACP ethical framework to guide and inform my practice. This is available for you to read online on www.bacp.co.uk and will give you further information about the qualities and attributes I cultivate in order to work most effectively with my clients.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

Cert Counselling Skills
Cert Counselling Studies
Level IV Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Integrative)
Level V Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling (Integrative) (Awaiting Award)

In addition to formal training in counselling I have also worked extensively with alcoholics and addicts over several years.
I specialise in working with people living with chronic illnesses to overcome the emotional impact of such diagnoses and to manage and live their lives as fully as possible.
Over many years I have worked in pastoral care, and trained with the chaplaincy team at the Royal Free Hospital to provide pastoral care and spiritual support to patients and their family and friends.

I worked as a counsellor for two years in an agency providing counselling and therapy to the LGBT community. During my time there I had the opportunity to work with several adolescents, which I enjoyed, having worked as a mentor with Connexions (Herts) prior to training as a counsellor. I would welcome the opportunity to work therapeutically with young people again and would update my enhanced disclosure from the CRB as required.

I also have a special interest in working with those who use self-injury as a way to cope with overwhelming feelings and distress.
