About me

I provide Psychotherapy, Counselling, Supervision and Training. I have over 20 years experience working with indivduals, groups and organisations.

I provide long term and short term psychotherapy and counselling for adults and young people. I facilitate a supportive and confidential environment in which you can talk about your experiences. These may be long standing difficulties in your life, or specific problems you are currently experiencing.

What Psychotherapy and Counselling can help with:
People often turn to therapy when they are stressed, confused, experiencing a crisis in their lives, having difficulties in relationships or are feeling depressed. Some of the problems counselling can help to address include:

  • Low self-esteem
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Physical, emotional or sexual abuse
  • Coping with bereavement and life changes
  • Destructive patterns of behaviour
  • Lack of purpose and direction in life
  • Isolation, lack of meaningful connection with others
  • Trauma/ PTSD

Therapy not only addresses problematic experiences but can also support you in discovering your aspirations, creativity and a deeper sense of connection with life. You will have the opportunity to talk about your own situation and prioritize your needs and wishes.

Sometimes when people begin counselling they are not clear what they want or may be feeling confused about what the difficulties are. You are not expected to begin with answers! You will have plenty opportunity to explore the difficulties without being judged, no matter how big, small or intangible your problems feel.

How psychotherapy and counselling can help:

  • Short term Counselling is usually arranged for a contract of between 6 -18 sessions and focuses on specific issues you would like to address. You will have the opportunity to explore your experiences, clarify your own situation and identify any changes you wish to make.
  • Ongoing psychotherapy provides the opportunity to explore in-depth underlying patterns of thoughts, feelings and beliefs affecting your current experiences. The contract is usually open ended.

This is a journey of self-discovery that can enable a greater sense of connectedness, acceptance, value and purpose in life.

We begin with an initial session to explore how counselling or psychotherapy can help, what you are hoping to gain and to clarify whether this is the appropriate route for you. We will also review what you are gaining from counselling on a regular basis. Sessions are usually arranged on a weekly basis. I work individually with adults and young people.

My Approach:
My approach to therapeutic work is integrative. This draws together various therapeutic disciplines to support the whole person, their psychological, emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing.

As a practitioner of Energy Psychology I also work with simple techniques that I have found to be particularly useful in treating PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and related symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares, anger as well as other traumas and phobias. They are also useful in treating stress, phobias, anxiety and in addressing patterns of relating to the self and others.

My Experience:
I have over 20 years experience in therapeutic work with individuals and groups. This includes working as a Psychotherapist and Counsellor in Private Practice, for a GP Surgery, NHS Staff Support Services, Youth Agencies and Business Sector Organisations. I also provide supervision to individuals and teams both privately and for organisations including Bath University, Addiction Recovery Agency, Off the Record and Wiltshire College. I facilitate groups and deliver professional development training in the public and private sectors. I have developed a range of projects in youth and community work, training and educational organisations.

I aim to work in ways that are accessible, supportive, creative and empowering.
