I am a Person-centred Counsellor. I counsel in my private practice, in the premises pictured below. I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), which is my professional body. I want to help you to enjoy your life, by working with you to raise your awareness of how you can achieve happiness and well-being for yourself. This will involve helping you to identify your own unique individual characteristics as resources, which are useful and positive for you. You will be offered warmth, and empathic understanding of your life circumstances, as a part of this Person-centred counselling process to achieve a healthy positive 'Self-concept'. A healthy positive 'Self-concept' is an essential feature for your sense of autonomy and well-being in life. My counselling service is completely confidential.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Diploma in counselling. For my continuing professional development, I studied to top my Counselling Diploma up to the BSc (Hons) Degree in 'Professional Counselling', at the University of Salford. On completion of this, I studied for the MSc Degree in 'Counselling & Psychotherapy Studies-CPD (Continuing Professional Development)', also at the University of Salford.
For the purposes of being aware of the latest research and development in the counselling field, for maintaining contact with other counsellors through networking, and for interest and enjoyment, I regularly attend conferences, seminars, workshops and interest groups, which are organised by my professional body, the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), and local Counselling & Psychotherapy groups - I am a member of the North-West Regional Psychotherapy Association (NWRPA).
I am a Person-centred Counsellor. I have also had skills training in other therapeutic approaches or interventions, eg Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness, which I can integrate into my counselling practice.
At the moment I counsel in my private practice. I have experience of counselling in other counselling contexts. These include, counselling for the NHS in Doctors' surgeries, and Doctors' patient referrals to me in other premises, and counselling for the Alcohol and Drugs Service (ADS), in ADS's association with The Criminal Justice System.
I am currently a Registered Member of my professional body, the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), having been awarded their Certificate of Proficiency. This relates to the BACP register, which achieved Accredited Voluntary Register status with the Professional Standards Authority, in 2013.
