About me

I

Hello and thank you for looking me up

I was motivated to become a counsellor, having myself been in need of counselling and finding the process extremely beneficial and life-enhancing. I found the process so fascinating and helpful, that I wanted to develop my understanding of what influences our choices in life and so started on , what has become, a life-long career.

I am a BACP Senior Registered Counsellor and  Psychotherapist My model of working is integrative.
For short term work I utilize my training in Transactional Analysis combined with a cognitive / behavioural approach.(CBT)
For longer term work my philosophic model is a combination of Attachment theory and Existentialism.
I originally trained as a Marriage Guidance Counsellor ( now Relate)  and took all the courses on offer to become a youth counsellor, and to work especially with adult survivors of sexual abuse.

I was a counsellor and principle lecturer in Counselling at West Herts College for 18 years and have counselled all ages from 16 - 88. I have also worked as a trainer for relate on the post graduate diploma.

I currently work for many EAP companies and I am also a registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist within the NHS and private healthcare.

I work in Hemel Hempstead in my home.

I do not follow the traditional model of silent listening, with little interaction. Instead, I will listen and talk with you and help you to recognise choices that, before, may not have been apparent, and then, how those choices might be implemented.

I work with sexuality and identity issues  and with couples experiencing many types of challenge in their relationships.

I have worked throughout the Covid 19 pandemic, mainly on the phone, and I have seen a pattern of issues that have become apparent during lock down.

Isolation, anxiety, separation, addiction to pornography  and domestic abuse are some  the concerns that I have and continue worked with . I have also seen the  challenges of spending so much time with people who you thought you knew well, but now see in a different light. This condition has put a strain on many relationships and re-assessing what really matters in life and relationships are themes that several of my current clients are exploring.

I feel very privileged to have had a long career that has enabled me to travel alongside so many different people and situations. To know that I can make a difference in their level of confidence in becoming Themselves, my education, therefore continues.
I hope that this profile helps you to decide if you would like to have an assessment session with me. All sessions last for 50 minutes and my fee is £75.00 for individuals and £100.00 for couples

Whatever you decide, I wish you all the best,

Jill

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
