About me

I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

My Approach:

Practising as an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist means that I recognise that there are significant links between all approaches to counselling and psychotherapy. As different clients have different needs, one single approach does not suit everyone; I aim to be flexible, working in a way which most benefits my client.

I believe that the quality of the relationship between counsellor and client, rather than any particular theoretical model, is the most successful aspect of therapy. I encourage people to explore their feelings and take responsibility for their thoughts and actions.

*What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

The term 'therapist' is used to include counsellors and psychotherapists: there is a significant overlap between the two in terms of the skills and approaches used. Counselling is often shorter term, sometimes focusing on a specific issue. Psychotherapy is a longer term process, involving a deeper exploration of past experiences in order to make sense of the present, and understand patterns which lead us to behave or experience life in certain ways.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications:

I completed an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling (BACP accredited training) at CPPD Counselling School in 2006 and have worked in private practice since 2007. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I completed an Advanced Diploma and an MA in Integrative Psychotherapy at the Minster Centre in 2012 (UKCP accredited training). My training involved humanistic and psychoanalytic approaches.

I am also a graduate of the University of Edinburgh (MA Hons) and also hold a Postgraduate Certificate of Education from the University of Bristol. I have a background of working in education.

In addition to my private work, my counselling experience includes working as a counsellor in a school, a youth centre and in a GP practice.
I am fully insured to practise as a counsellor and have regular supervision in accordance with BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) guidelines.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
