About me

I am highly trained, qualified and experienced in providing psychotherapy and counselling to individuals and couples.  I am a BACP Accredited Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, Counsellor, Couples Counsellor and Psychosexual Counsellor.  I am clinically trained and qualified to MSc level and have a first degree BSc (hons) in Psychology. with further training in psychosexual issues in couples.

I specialise in trauma, anxiety, depression, panic disorders, feeling sad, relationship difficulties, couple problems, family issues. I have further specialism in difficulties with intimacy and commitment,  OCD, PTSD, Body Dysmorphia, Aspergers Syndrome.  Personality Disorders and thought disorders.

I have many years experience treating clients who have difficulties with aspects of their personality such as internet addiction, being dishonest in relationships or engaging in risky,  secretive destructive behaviours.

Emotional struggles present themselves in many ways: for example, having psycho-somatic debilitating symptoms, depression, anxiety disorders, social anxiety, paranoid thinking, panic and overwhelming stress, eating disorders, thought disorders, feeling stuck, empty or lonely, feeling split or fake, low confidence or poor self esteem, relationship difficulties or family issues. You may also feel its difficult to connect with other people. You may be struggling to work and concentrate, or you may find yourself feeling irritable, tearful or angry. Or you may have become aware that your symptoms, or even aspects of your personality, make life difficult for you. You may find yourself behaving self-destructively in ways that are interfering with your happiness or that of others.

You may feel worried about some aspect of your behaviour - such as feeling aggressive or jealous - or fearing dependency  - or you may feel isolated or withdrawn and unable to sustain a sexual (or other) relationship. Or you may be worried about how you are thinking/behaving perhaps when stressed.

Experiences in your recent or more distant past may have left you feeling unhappy or even traumatised. There may have been a difficult separation or bereavement to negotiate - or a relationship or a situation that has left you feeling unhappy.

You may also be worried about something regarding your mental health - such as being unable to think as you used to or that your perception of yourself or the environment has changed. These worries may be something you have been experiencing for some time or just recently.

You may also be struggling with coming to terms with long term physical ill health or injury or disability and need help with the psychological and emotional impact of this on you and your relationships.

Couples Counselling:

Couples may be married or not, mixed or same-sex, living together or living apart.

I see couples who feel that their relationship is in difficulty and wish to seek help.

If you’re in this position, you may for example be arguing a lot, be unhappy in your sexual relationship, have problems with parenting your children, or be thinking about separation or divorce. I will help you understand more about what’s going on between you, so that you can come to recognise patterns you may not have been aware of. I will help you clarify how you might be able to get things to improve and how you can develop your relationship more positively.

Some of the things I aim to help people achieve through couples counselling, (which also forms part of individual therapy, where appropriate), include:-

• Better communication
• A more stable family life
• Self-discovery
• An improved sexual relationship
• Greater awareness of your partner's needs
• Reduced jealousy
• Increased confidence

Psycho-sexual Counselling for Couples web based sessions:
This will have a strong behavioural component to the Counselling and is for couples who are having sexual problems and want to improve their sexual relationship. Difficulties may include sexual dysfunctions and loss of desire. I will work with you in a very sensitive, informed and confident way as I am aware that you will be working in a very delicate, sensitive and personal area of your relationship, often talking about things that may never have been talked about before.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

Consulting room in Spaxton is on the ground floor and a ramp can be provided for over a small step for access through the front door. I am unable to provide wheelchair access at my Harley Street practice.
