Counsellor Profile
As a qualified counsellor I currently work in primary care at a GP’s surgery and also privately. My name is Nicola, I am a warm, empathic person and as a counsellor I am committed to helping my clients. I believe that a good, strong therapeutic relationship is vital to the counselling process and that everyone is unique.
I have training and interests in different forms of counselling: therefore I take an integrative approach in my work. This involves working with several distinct models of counselling and psychotherapy and allows me to adapt my techniques to the personal problems that are unique to the individual. For example I am interested in Cognitive Based Therapy, which is used to identify unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour, and to work with the client to resolve these issues.
My experience is of working with clients with a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, anger management, sexual abuse, domestic abuse, family relationship problems, eating disorders and bereavement.
Training, Qualifications & Experience (more info)
My current work has been with a particular emphasis on suicide prevention and self-harm. I have experience of short-term work, long-tem and crisis work with individuals. I am a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and work within the guidelines of the Ethical Framework for Good Practise.
From receiving counselling myself, I know how difficult it can be to approach a counsellor and understand much of the anxiety that goes along with meeting for the first time. I am mindful of this and try as much as possible to put my clients at ease during the session.
I truly believe that counselling provides an opportunity for clients to progress towards a more satisfying way of life. It provides you with the opportunity to find your own solutions to personal emotional problems. Especially in those difficult times when our minds become so busy its difficult to hear what we want for ourselves.
Please email or contact me if you have any questions.
