Profile
Highly experienced counsellor/psychotherapist accredited by the BACP and registered with the UKRCP, offering individual sessions (incl. young people), couple sessions, group therapy, coaching and mediation. I work to the Code of Ethics of the BACP and have a full CRB clearance. I actively affirm diversity and multi-cultural issues in my practice.
I have worked with private psychotherapy and counselling clients since 1994, and have counselling experience in organisational settings previous to that. My current experience also includes working as a freelance counsellor for employee assistance providers as well executive coaching for corporate leaders, career transitions and career counselling and accredited learning and development programmes in coaching and mentoring.
The core of my approach is essentially integrative: humanistic, existential, holistic; psychodynamic; increasing awareness of cognitive thought patterns and beliefs; paying attention in the present moment to one's body and mind (incl. feelings and emotions), with a non-judmental, non-reactive and accepting attitude; and a behavioural perspective with a focus on creative experimentation.
The aim is to gain satisfaction and overcome those human dymensions that so often can sabotage real, positive outcomes. So I aim to assist my clients to reach their fullest potential and recognise their own inner resources and strenghts.
For example, for short therapy I may use a solution focused aproach to help resolve current problems and where clients require a more fundamental understanding of their issues and behaviour I might use a psychodynamic approach. Longer term therapy involves my clients speaking about what they need to without censorship, be it about the past, the present or the future in order to gain awareness and with that new understanding bring about change or find acceptance. What clients want from their lives often changes as they get beyond anxiety or depression and begin to see themselves in a different, truer light. I provide a safe, fully confidential environment in which this can take place.
Personal development and transformation groups meet about every 5 to 6 weeks for a w.e. of 2 x 6 hours. Group membership is open to 121 clients.
I am passionate about my work and am committed to my own personal and professional development to enhance my work as a practitioner.
