Counsellor Profile

I am an individual counsellor and a RELATE trained couple specialist. In private practice l work with couples and individuals and I also receive referrals from Workplace Providers, Charitable Trusts, and Triage Healthcare. My work has a short-term focus and I practice in Kemble near Cirencester. Full membership of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy shows that I meet their training criteria and I adhere to their code of ethics. I am also a member of an Association for Solution focused practitioners. I am in my early 50s with a grown up family.

Training, Qualifications & Experience (more info)

My core training took place over a 3-year period and integrated the psychodynamic and systemic models for brief work. My training included 3 years of personal development therapy and I continue to attend specialist training in the areas I work with. I hold Post Graduate and Graduate Counselling Certificates validated by the University of East London and a Certificate from Westminster Pastoral Foundation. In addition I hold a RELATE practitioner Certificate and Certificates in advice work and health and nutrition. Additional theoretical training includes: cognitive behaviour therapy, and solution focused practice.

When working with couples I aim to improve communication between each partner and help them to understand their personalities and work towards resolving their difficulties. This process is about enriching and repairing relationships where couples may decide to stay together or separate.

Specialist training enables me to work with individuals and couples in the following areas: relationships both personal and work related, sexual issues, addictive behaviour, anger, anxiety, depression, bereavement, trauma, abusive relationships, mental health, suicidal issues, personality disorders, eating disorders, spirituality, chronic illness and the impact of disability.

Before beginning clinical practice I supervised advisors at a Citizens Advice Bureau and later specialised in benefits law representing clients with disabilities at a Law Centre. Moving into counselling organisations enabled me to further my work and provide a holistic way of working. Drawing on skills from my core and continued training I use an approach which is tailor made for clients and select what is most helpful for them. My focus is on promoting change in short term work.
