About me

I have a passionate interest in people and relationships and I care deeply about helping people heal, grow and restore connections in their lives. I believe that counselling/psychotherapy offers you an opportunity to take some time to nurture and support yourself. Whether you are troubled by pain from the past, struggling with current relationships or difficulties, or just wanting to pause to assess where you’ve come from, where you are now, and where you are going, individual therapy can give you the structure and support you need to understand the patterns of your life and make the changes you desire so that you may create a life that truly reflects your dreams and your potential.

You will be offered skilled help to address your own personal difficulties. I seek to create a warm, supportive, non-judgemental and respectful relationship but will also try to offer some appropriate challenge to help you grow through the counselling process. The aim is to provide an opportunity for you to work towards living in a more satisfying and resourceful way and perhaps to look at life from fresh perspectives. I seek to discover and nourish your strengths and thus help you to develop more confidence and self esteem to find solutions to your problems.

Imago Relationship Therapy was developed by Harville Hendrix and Helen La Kelly Hunt,  and this highly practical and effective method has helped thousands of couples worldwide establish more connected, passionate and joyful relationships.

The core principles of Imago therapy are

  • Eliminating the idea of ‘right and wrong’ and replacing it with a deep sense of curiosity and loving care for yourself and your partner
  • Raising consciousness around your projections and their impact on your relationships
  • That all relationships move through Romantic Love into the Power Struggle and have the potential to move to conscious joyful relating
  • Understanding your childhood wounding. How you adapted to it and the impact it has on your life and relationships
  • Imago Dialogue is the core technique used for all conversations.  The Imago Dialogue:-
    • Promotes change and growth
    • Establishes an environment of safety which transforms conflict into connection
    • Offers a safe space to begin re-romanticising the relationship
    • Allows you to be accurately heard and to hear

Imago was originally developed to help couples and individuals establish successful and long lasting relationships.

However, Imago understands that, in extreme circumstances, separation and/or divorce may seem like the only option. In these situations, Imago offers you a set of tools you can use to navigate this difficult period allowing each of you to be responsible and respectful throughout.

In addition, if there are children to consider, Imago offers a brilliant set of tools to face the ongoing challenges of co-parenting.

In summary, you will be coached in practical and effective relationship skills that help resolve conflicts and frustration and will have the opportunity to learn how to communicate more effectively and powerfully as well as listen to, respect and appreciate each other. I work with couples to create emotional safely and intimacy and to help rekindle romance, passion and love.

For 'mixed agenda' couples (where one partner wants to preserve and repair the relationship and the other is leaning towards ending it, I can offer Discernment Counselling having completed the organisation's advanced training:

Discernment counselling differs from regular couples counselling in three ways: a) the goal is not to solve problems in the relationship at this stage, but to figure out whether the problems can be solved; b) the process involves mainly individual conversations with each partner, since they each have different needs and agendas, and c) it is always short term between 1 and 5 sessions. The goals for the couple are:

  • Clarity and confidence about next steps for their relationship
  • A deeper understanding of what has happened to their relationship and each person’s contributions to the problems.

I also offer relationship coaching and support for individuals as well as couples. Individual therapy can help you to clarify your concerns, identify your needs and feelings, learn to express yourself effectively and to understand and change those behaviours that may be preventing you from getting the love you want.

I offer both short-term and open ended counselling/psychotherapy working with individuals and couples. (Sessions are available Monday to Thursday from 8am to 9.30pm, and on Fridays 8am to 6pm)

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

EFT is a powerful method of reducing stress and anxiety and can deal with any negative emotion. It also calms you so that you can think more clearly about your problem. It is based on the idea that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system.
