Profile
I am an experienced and BACP Accredited therapist and trainee Clinical Hypnotherapist who works with individuals and couples from my own practice. I also work in partnership serving the business community with services such as Counselling Referral schemes, Motivational Maps, NLP, Hypnotherapy, Coaching Solutions, Mediation and Conflict Resolution.
Who is Counselling for?
Therapy can help you understand your problems, help you to understand yourself better and learn to like yourself again. You are reading this page and perhaps thinking of getting help- perhaps you have been thinking about this for a long time. It's a big decision to make as you will be investing time, and money, into your therapy. Will this person be able to help me? These concerns are all perfectly natural. If it's any concilation, i have had therapy myself a number of times- throughout my training and at other tough times in my life. I know it's hard to ask for help- some clients have said they feel weak or stupid. I believe it's a sign of strength to admit you can't cope. We all struggle with life sometimes- no one is perfect.
If you would like to discuss your needs initially over the telephone or email, that's fine. A lot of my clients contact me in this way first without committing to an initial assessment. I am more than happy to discuss how i can help you. Please don't put off getting the help you deserve.
I help couples, men, women, young adults and trainee Counsellors. I have had my own Private Practice for almost nine years and work on issues such as anger management, relationship issues (couple counselling), abuse, bereavement, anxiety, relationship issues, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), low self esteem/confidence, child related issues, stress, alcohol addiction, bullying, work related issues and personal development. (Please see my website www.mariehorrey.co.uk for more information and testimonials).
My Counselling training is Integrative which means that I have been trained in different models of counselling. I can adapt to the 'client's' individual requirements. I have a particular interest in how the past (ie our relationships with parents and/or caregivers) impacts on our 'here and now' relationships and also how past, and present experiences shape us. Helping clients understand where they have learned their behaviours, helps them to discover new, better ways of living.
Most of my work is by 'word of mouth' (either referrals via other therapists, GP's and clients) which reflects the high levels that I personally work towards with all my clients. I also receive referrals from Insurance Companies, Human Resources Directors, the Armed Forces, The Fire Service, local and national Blue Chip Companies.
I am also in a Business partnership working with local business's to help them achieve staff well being through counselling referral schemes, coaching, motivation, workshops, conflict resolution and mediation services.
Why? I pursued Therapy as a career because of my own life experiences, which were predominately childhood based. These experiences shaped me as an adult, but held me back, and i didn't realise my full potential. In 2001 I suffered a major bereavement. I then decided on a career change- a career that would mean me helping people. I had therapy a number of times throughout my adult life, and again after my loss. I saw first hand how effective good Counselling can be. The training and my own self development have enabled me to really help people which is something I feel passionately about. This isn't a job that purely 'pays the bills'. Counselling is my passion and a vocation. Everyone has the right to reach their potential and be emotionally well.
I can supply prospective clients with many testimonials and am happy to discuss your individual needs prior to your initial assessment.
