Profile
I am a Gestalt Psychotherapist with a previous background in teaching and Advice work.
Gestalt Therapists believe that people are born with the potential to live a satisfying and creative life. Sometimes people still carry the residue of earlier pain and get stuck in beliefs and ways of behaving which have been useful in the past but have become limiting. I see my task as a therapist as being to help you to see your situation more clearly, find out how you are part of it and develop better ways of managing in the present.
I have also been trained in the use EMDR and AIT - two more recent and very effective therapies for healing wounds from the past. Some people may not be helped sufficiently by talking therapies alone because the patterns of distress are encoded in the body as well as the mind. This is especially true for those who have suffered trauma - whether through major single incident(s)or through a pattern of abuse such as bullying or rejection. EMDR and AIT work with these patterns at an embodied level. For more information on these approaches see below or go to my my website (www.counsellingoxford.co.uk).
My practice is in North Oxford with very good access by buses along the Banbury Road and is also easy to reach from the ring road by car with good parking options available.
