Counsellor ProfileI am a Gestalt Psychotherapist with a previous background in teaching and Advice work.
My main practice is located just outside Witney - easily accessible by car from Oxford as well as from the villages around Witney and with easy parking. I also do a few sessions a week in Oxford (Headington).
Gestalt Therapists believe that people are born with the potential to live a satisfying and creative life. Sometimes people still carry the residue of earlier pain and get stuck in beliefs and ways of behaving which have been useful in the past but have become limiting. I see my task as a therapist being to help you to see your situation more clearly, find out how you are part of it and develop better ways of managing in the present.
My training in EMDR provides a powerful tool for working with any painful memories from the past which may continue to condition how you expereince life now. Dealing with the consequences of old suffering can lead to a new and more satisfying perspective on life.

Extra InformationEMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing) is a treatment approach that has been widely validated by research for the treatment of traumatic memories and has recently been recognised by NICE (National Istitue for Clinical Excellence) as the treatment of choice for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). It has also been shown to be effective in treating more chronic problems susch as anxiety, phobias and lack of self confidence.
EMDR appears to stimulate directly the brain's ability to digest past traumatic events and to heal the wounds that are left on the emotional brain.
