Hello, welcome to my profile and I'm sure you'll agree with me about how confusing all this is. You're looking for someone you can feel comfortable with and, more importantly, someone who can help you feel better about things. If I were trying to choose, I'd start by reading on and then, if I liked what I read, I'd pick up the phone or send an email and have a chat. If I felt comfortable with the person on the other end of the phone or email then I'd make a provisional appointment and take it from there.
I have always been the person that people talk to - whether at a bus-stop, in a supermarket or sheltering from the rain. I don't why people talk to me but they just do - and what do they talk about - why, themselves of course. And do I mind? Not a bit. In fact, when I was younger my favourite book choice would always be someone's biography. Now, all that reading and listening has taught me certain things about people. The first is that most people's favourite topic is themselves - quite naturally. The second is that most people's biggest issues are with other people - quite often people they live or work with. And, do you know what? No matter what your issue, talking about it will help - sometimes a little - sometimes a lot - but it will help.
My web-site is at www.talkingheadscounselling.com, my email is Pat@talkingheadscounselling.com and my phone number is 07944 006427
My counselling service is called Talking Heads Counselling because I believe two heads are always better than one.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I hold the Level 4 Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, awarded by the Counselling & Therapeutic Central Awarding Body (CPCAB). For more information about BACP please visit their website at www.bacp.co.uk
To date I am enjoying running my own practice and working within local education. I have also worked within the NHS and also for a community counselling service.
As I describe above, my experience of reading about and listening to people is extensive. Because life seemed to be drawing me towards being able to help the people who talked to me, I decided to extend my education and so I undertook to complete a course in counselling. This helped give me the theory behind much human behaviour and the tools to be able to help those who needed it. There were many books written by specialists and experts - some ancient, some more modern - and all filled with the writers' experiences, discoveries and wisdom and, do you know what, people and their issues really haven't changed very much over the years. We are all loving, fallible creatures, always doing our very best but occasioally stumbling - despite our very best intentions - and then needing a helping hand - or head!
