Counsellor Profile

As you will see from my details below, my training and experience has been in couple and family therapy. Since I started working independently twelve years ago, my work has been predominantly with couples; I look at what is happening for people very much in the context of their often demanding lives where family and work compete for time and attention. I am also glad to see people following divorce or separation or where 'step' families are, for example, experiencing relationship problems or getting to grips with contact visits to the other parent, or where co-parenting is an uphill struggle.

I am happy to talk to people on the phone before making an appointment so they can get a feel of what I can offer, and if they think I can be of use.

I am a professional adviser for Youngminds, a charity concerned with promoting the mental health of children and young people; this work involves telephone consultations with parents worried about a wide range of emotional and behavioural difficultiess their childrenare experiencing.

I am registered by the UK Council for Psychotherapy; I trained as a family/couple therapist at the Tavistock Clinic and the Westminster Pastoral Foundation while working (for 20 years) in the Surrey Child and Family Consultation Service (now CAMHS). I was also a telephone counsellor for the Stepfamily Association before its merger with Parentline Plus.

I keep up to date as regards continual professional development by attending various conferences and courses, and reading. I receive supervision from a family/couple therapist and a consultant child psychiatrist, and am a member of a supervision group.
