About me

Hello! My name is Tamsin.

I offer a warm and friendly environment in which you can feel able to talk freely about what is troubling you and causing you muddles, difficulties or painful feelings.

It may be something to do with yourself as an individual in the past or the present or perhaps fears about the future.

It may have something to do with a relationship - in your personal life, in the family or at work.

We explore your current relationships and the issues that may be troubling you in your life in relation to your totally individual personal emotional history.

How Can I Help?

Once a trusting relationship has been established in the counselling, we can begin to untangle what is going on inside you. Often issues with early attachments have created emotional scars and sensitivities which affect how you feel today and may well affect your current relationships.

My aim is to help you shed light and understanding onto whatever it is that has brought you to seek counselling and to help you understand yourself at deeper often unconscious levels.

Generally, people begin to feel better in themselves and more in control of their lives.

They may well feel more confident and more satisfied in themselves.

And they know a great deal more about their inner world and how they 'work' as a person.
The confidential and trusting relationship created between us is an important part of the therapy and a main component in helping you feel better.

How I work

I see individuals once a week for short term counselling (6-12 weeks)
The sessions are 50 mins long and I charge £60 per session- I aim to make your counselling sessions affordable in relation to your personal situation and so this can be discussed in the sessions.

Some of the issues that bring people to see me are:

  • Relationship difficulties
  • Sense of having lost your way/feeling in a muddle
  • Low feelings of depression and sadness
  • Lack of confidence
  • Low self-esteem
  • Life crises

Wanting to find out more about themselves

Although my training is Psycho-dynamic and Psycho-Analytic, I work in the way that suits the person I am seeing at the time.

I work in a talking way with you and bring in insights and therapeutic approaches from other models of counselling and therapy when I think they may be helpful.

Where I work

I live and work in Cambridge on Mawson Road - very near the station and near the centre of town. There is Pay and Display Parking opposite the house and around the corner of the street. There is also much more parking on Gresham Road (down the road from Mawson Road).

I work face to face in my consulting room in Mawson Road.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a UKCP registered psychoanalytic psychotherapist and a BACP registered Counsellor and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist.

I came to the profession from a background in University teaching for 15 years and also Adult Education for WEA etc.

I qualified in psych-dynamic counselling in 2002 at Cambridge University (Advanced and Post Graduate Diploma BACP Reg/Accred.) and subsequently qualified in Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy at the Guild of Psychotherapists in London in 2006.

I have worked in Private Practice for the past 14 years. In short - I have been practising for 18 years and have worked as counsellor in a GP surgery; in university counselling services, as well as maintaining my ongoing private practice.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
