Counsellor Profile
Welcome to my listing, which I hope you will find full of interesting and useful information relating to the range of services I provide to my private and organisational clients.
I work with Private Clients (Adults, Children, Young Peoplem Couples & Groups) from my Consulting Room in Whitchurch, North Shropshire - and all over the UK with Statutory, Voluntary and Independent Organisations providing services to Children and Young People.
I provide a comprehensive range of counselling, psychotherapy and coaching services within a safe, supportive and successful framework developed over twenty-eight years of working directly with people in a wide range of settings and therefore able to deal with most issues both competently and professionally.
My counselling and psychotherapeutic practice is underpinned by Transactional Analysis (TA) which is extremely effective with individuals, couples and groups. As TA is committed to change and provides a powerful approach in bringing about human well being - focusing upon specific changes desired by the client to understand behaviors, emotions and thoughts that prevent the development of full human potential.
My practice is also integrative, which means I do not restrict my practice to any one approach, utilising every aspect of my training, knowledge, skills and experience to reinforce positive relationship styles and healthy functioning through jointly developing an in-depth understanding of how each person can constructively move forward to promote positive change in their lives.
The majority of my counselling practice tends to be short to medium term - whereas my psychotherapeutic practice is predominantly medium to long term - but always focussed upon the needs of the individual.
I practice in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and Institute of Transactional Analysis (ITA).

Organisational Clients
I provide a range of services in addition to the counselling and psychotherapy services available to my private clients.
Counselling, Psychotherapy and Coaching services are often commissioned by organisational clients in relation to individual service users - and as an effective means of staff support.
I offer a comprehensive range of innovative services specifically designed to powerfully impact upon the lives of children & young people - and the people who support them - within the public care system - including:
Local Authorities, Voluntary Agencies,
Independent Agencies, Residential Teams, Fostering & Adoption Teams, Social Workers, Foster & Adoptive Carers, YOT's, CAMHS, Youth Workers, Education, Health, Lawyers & Guardians.
Consultancy
"An agency offering expert or professional advice in a field - A conference at which advice is given or views are exchanged - A conference between two or more people to consider a particular question."
The most valuable resource within any child care organisation - statutory, voluntary or independent - is the staff team. It therefore makes sense to maximise their potential to remain focused, informed, healthy and engaged.
I therefore offer, from within an established and well respected psychotherapeutic paradigm, a range of services designed to successfully impact upon specific area of organisational life - for example:
Developing a deeper understanding of the dynamics of the organisation and the individuals and groups within it.
Developing deeper insight into the conscious and unconscious processes that affect working life within your organisation.
Develop greater understanding of the organisational, intergroup, intrapersonal and interpersonal issues that encourage the functioning or dysfunctioning of individuals and teams within your organisation.
Training
"To coach in or accustom to a mode of behavior or performance: To make proficient with specialized instruction and practice: To focus on or aim at (a goal, mark, or target)."
Targeted, measurable, cost effective training is an integral component of effective service delivery within any successful organisation - and never more so than in the provision of residential, educational and therapeutic services to youngsters within the public care system.
Continuous Professional Development is now a statutory requirement in relation to the majority of staff employed within this sector - and will shortly follow for the remaining occupational groups.
It is therefore essential - both professionally and commercially - to ensure staff teams are equipped to cope in the most effective means possible in relation to time and cost.
I therefore offer a range of training specifically focused upon this area of work and expertise, for example:
SEPARATION, ATTACHMENT & LOSS
ATTACHMENT DISORDER
THERAPEUTIC INTERVENTIONS
CREATIVELY MANAGING BEHAVIOUR
TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS
MANAGING RESIDENTIAL UNITS THERAPEUTICALLY
DIRECT WORK WITH CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE
EFFECTIVE TEAM MANAGEMENT - A THERAPEUTIC PERSPECTIVE
WORKING WITH FAMILY ISSUES
CREATING, MANAGING & MAINTAINING A THERAPEUTIC MILIEU
THE PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF SEXUAL ABUSE
LOW SELF ESTEEM & SELF IMAGE
UNDERSTANDING SELF HARM
SEXUALLY INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOURS
WORKING WITH TRAUMA & SHAME
UNDERSTANDING GROUP DYNAMICS
Supervision
"The act, process, or function of supervising: Management by overseeing the performance or operation of a person or group: To have the charge and direction of."
Effective supervision has long been recognised as the key to good practice within the sector - however, those working with our most vulnerable children and young people often reported the process as illusory and focused upon simply 'ticking boxes'.
THIS REPRESENTS A MASSIVE MISMANAGEMENT OF A VALUEABLE RESOURCE - AND WOULD NOT BE TOLERATED IN ANY OTHER SPHERE OF RESOURCE MANAGEMENT.
I therefore offer a range of services, from within a psychotherapeutic paradigm, designed to negate this wastage and propel organisations, projects, teams and individuals forward, for example:
DESIGNING EFFECTIVE SUPERVISION STRATEGIES & SYSTEMS
SUPERVISING THE SUPERVISORS
SENIOR MANAGEMENT TEAM CONSULTATION & DEVELOPMENT
CREATING, SHAPING & MAINTAINING EFECTIVE TEAMS
CLINICAL (THERAPEUTIC) SUPERVION
TASK FOCUSED SUPERVISION
TEAM FOCUSED SUPERVISION
DEVELOPMENT FOCUSED SUPERVISION
