Counsellor ProfileAs a BACP accredited, UKRC registered independent counsellor, I have worked in the voluntary sector (including University Counselling Services), primary care and in private practice. I work with individuals, both adults and young people, from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, on a wide range of issues. I offer both long-term psychotherapy and short-term solution-focused counselling. The main theoretical approach of my work is psychodynamic.
Fundamental to all my work, whether long- or short-term, is the quality of my relationship with my client. I respect each one as an individual whose experience is singular and particular to him/her. Unconditional regard - the ability to accept others, whatever they say or do, without pre-conditions - is a crucial aspect of my work. By providing an environment in which there is total privacy, confidentiality, consistency and predictability, I offer a safe place in which trust can develop. The client can then risk exploring the issues that are troubling him/her, while remaining safe and contained.
I aim to work alongside my clients to try to alleviate situations or resolve issues that seem too intractable to tackle alone. Although I participate actively in our sessions, making observations and offering interpretations as appropriate, I believe that it is ultimately the client who has the power to make changes; my role is to assist in the process.
I adhere to the BACP's Code of Ethics, have regular supervision and hold professional indemnity insurance.
