About me

I undertake both brief counselling and long term work with single and couple clients, principally using Psychodynamic counselling which involves helping clients to make links with issues from their past to the present and often deals with regression and repression but I also practise Integratively (utilising one or more counselling approaches according to the therapeutic needs of my client) and, where appropriate, use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) which can assist in changing negative thought patterns to positive ones.

Specialisms include:
  Anxiety and panic attacks;
  Work related stress;
  OCD and depression;
  Couples and Relationship Counselling;
  Bereavement Counselling including counselling relatives and friends of those suffering from terminal   illness.
  Suicide awareness training;
  Working with survivors of abuse;
  Writing and delivering Bereavement Training programmes and facilitating and working with groups;

I work with issues about careers, some of which can cause stress and depression, and am also trained in Information, Advice & Guidance which I have provided in both institutional and individual settings.

I undertake work for insurance companies and agencies dealing with accident claims and other health issues where counselling or psychotherapeutic treatments might be helpful.

I am qualified to provide Clinical Supervision both one-to-one and in groups.

I also specialise in telephone counselling for private clients throughout the United Kingdom and also provide this service to major health insurance companies.

Training, qualifications & experience

I gained my qualifications to practise over a 7 year period and have 20 years experience of Counselling and Psychotherapy, working with clients with a wide range of issues.

I have a BA Honours degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and an Advanced Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling. As part of my degree I have undertaken training in CBT and have experience of working with clients wanting this approach.

I also have a Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Supervision (Level 7 - MA standard).

I am a Qualified Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Member of the Association of Independent Practitioners.

In addition to my private practice work, I managed the Counselling and Bereavement Service of the Isle of Wight's Earl Mountbatten Hospice for 5 years until 2013.

I currently provide a supervision service to staff at At. Michael's Hospice in St. Leonards.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
