Counsellor Profile

I spent over 20 years working in HR and Recruitment roles before studying for my Counselling Diploma with ASIIP (Adlerian Society and Institute of Individual Psychology). During this time I was heavily involved in supporting staff, those seeking employment and graduates in all aspects of career counselling and work related issues including bullying in the workplace.

In my work with MIND and the Addiction Counselling Trust I have supported and worked with clients with a wide range of concerns ranging from depression, to alcohol and/or drug addiction, bereavement, Anger, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder through to general relationship issues.

It has been my experience that distressed clients often find it hard to pin point exactly what their problem is and it is only through examination that the underlying and central problem comes to light. Therefore whilst I have listed some of my experience to date, I am also prepared to walk alongside a client in their exploration of whatever aspects of their lives they feel the need to investigate, wherever their journey takes them.

More recently I have been involved in Parent Education, providing training for parents and families on topics such as anger management, self esteem, self confidence, bullying, communicating with children and learning together creatively. I have also covered these topics in the counselling room in addition to helping parents work through memories of their own childhood in respect of their expectations of their own children.

The Adlerian approach to counselling is to work with Lifestyle which examines each person’s individual relationship with society and their unique view of the world. Dreams, early recollections and family constellation (birth order) are the core tools I use in my work.

Working at the clients own pace, the process is enabling and empowering, giving the client the tools and understanding to see how they have created their view of the world and how this influences their lives today and provides them with the knowledge, ability and choices to be different.

The Adlerian approach lends itself to both short and long term counselling.
