About me

'A Safe Place to Talk'
Perhaps you or someone close to you would like help because you feel distressed, isolated, helpless or burdened.
Counselling can help with difficulties and emotional stress caused by loss, relationship breakdown and other disruptive life events. Talking with a counsellor can help you understand how past experiences, worry about your future or lack of self-confidence may be affecting your life at present. A professional counsellor can help you reflect on how you respond to life events and explore the way you relate to yourself and to others.
Counselling provides a safe place to explore thoughts and feelings and aims to help you make your own choices.

I have been counselling individual adult and young clients for 25 years, and coupes for 5 years.
I offer both time-limited counselling of 6 -18 weeks, or longer term counselling.
Time-limited counselling works with a specific focus right from the beginning, while longer term counselling explores different issues over a period of time.
This can be negotiated at the initial consultation. Sessions are once a week and last for 50 minutes.

My training is psychodynamic, which is a way of understanding ourselves and others by making links between the past and the present. Psychodynamic counselling is a therapeutic process that helps people understand and resolve their worries and problems through a process of exploration of thoughts, feelings, memories and dreams. It is based on the theories and practice of analytical psychology and psychoanalysis, and has a long and respected history going back to Freud and Jung.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

You can contact me to make an appointment by calling: 07774 423900

Leave a message and I will return your call as soon as possible. Your first appointment (for an initial consultation) will be confirmed in writing or by email.
The initial consultation is an opportunity for you to talk through your difficulties and to explore your needs and expectations and whether counselling is the best way foward. Sometimes other services may be more appropriate - for instance people dependent on drugs or alcohol may need to be referred to specialist help.
Confidentiality: counselling is private and confidential at all times. No information will be disclosed to anyone without the client's permission except under rare legal circumstances. You are free to talk without fear of rejection, criticism or blame.
